Danbury joins list of cities vying for Amazon's 2nd headquarters
Danbury is the latest city to throw its hat in the ring as Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, searches for a place to build its second headquarters.
The city created a video to pitch its case, and it's garnered thousands of views since its release Thursday morning.
Mayor Mark Boughton says officials wanted to have a little fun and show what Danbury has to offer.
The video is about a minute and 30 seconds long, during which Boughton touts the city's low crime rate, diversity, quality of life and its quick, efficient permitting process.
Bridgeport and Hartford have also expressed interest in attracting Amazon, but Boughton says his city has what he calls the "Danbury difference."
"In general, people are pretty excited about the prospect," Boughton says. "You know what? At the bottom line, even if it gets us on their radar for another company that may say hey let's try Danbury, they seem pretty open and progressive in terms of economic development, it's a win for us. So we see nothing but upside on this."
Boughton says the city will also be working with the state to come up with a singular application for the area that would identify incentives that could attract a company like Amazon.
