A Danbury man was killed in a head-on collision Thursday on Route 34 in Seymour, police say.

It happened just before 3:45 p.m. near Maiden Lane and involved a Nissan Rouge and Dodge Charger.

Police found the driver of the Nissan, Wade Meeker, unresponsive and began to perform CPR.

He died at the scene.

The driver of the Charger, an 18-year-old girl, was injured and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

It's not clear how the crash happened.

Police say they were informed by Monroe police that Meeker was driving erratically in their town on Route 34 just before 3:30 p.m. Seymour officers were on their way to that area to look for the Nissan when the crash was reported.

That section of Route 34 was closed for several hours but reopened just before 8:30 p.m.
