The ice presented a challenge to Darien rescue workers called in to save a stranded dog.
Darien police posted photos of the incident on Instagram.
According to police, the dog was walking along "Five Mile River," but became stranded on a grassy patch as the tide came in.
Police and firefighters broke out the cold water gear and teamed up to bring the dog back to safety.
