A federal grand jury has charged a Darien woman with fraud and tax evasion.
She's accused of stealing nearly $1 million from a local veterans' organization.
Darien police arrested Cynthia Tanner, 53, last summer for stealing $8,000 from the National Veterans Service Fund.
Tanner worked as a bookkeeper for the agency.
Officials now say Tanner failed to report all that money as income between 2009 and 2013, and she cheated the federal government out of $270,000 in taxes.
