Officers were initially called to Black Rock Avenue for a report of an abandoned child who was on the front porch of a home. Once they arrived, officers found the child and then found Rayo-Mairena nearby injured in the street.

yesterdayA 24-year-old woman has died after she was found injured and unresponsive in Bridgeport Tuesday night, police say.
Evelyn Rayo-Mairena was found lying in the street on Black Rock Avenue around 9:30 p.m.
She was taken to St Vincent's Medical Center.
Police say they are investigating her death as a homicide.
Officers were initially called to Black Rock Avenue for a report of an abandoned child who was on the front porch of a home.
Once they arrived, officers found the child and then found Rayo-Mairena nearby injured in the street.
The child was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation.
Police did not provide any additional information on Rayo-Mairena's injuries.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy Wednesday.
