The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating the death of an incarcerated individual at the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers after the man was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 1:30 p.m., Sunday.
A correction officer discovered the individual during a routine tour.
Staff initiated emergency and life‑saving measures, and paramedics from a local ambulance company continued efforts to revive him while transporting him to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead by a hospital physician at 2:31 p.m.
State Police arrived at the facility at about 4:00 p.m. to begin their investigation.
The deceased has been identified as 45‑year‑old Craig Whyte of New Haven, CT, who was serving a 33‑month sentence for Threatening.
The facility has been placed on lockdown. The Department of Correction Security Division and the Connecticut State Police are jointly investigating. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death.
