As the deer population continues to grow in southwestern Connecticut, so do the dangers they pose to drivers. Drivers say they often encounter deer while driving along the Merritt Parkway in Westport. Those encounters often lead to accidents. The Fairfield County Municipal Deer Management Alliance met with community representatives Monday to discuss methods of reducing the number of deer. The group is hoping to reduce the deer population by implementing controlled hunts and by encouraging private landowners to allow deer management methods on their properties. Members from Connecticut No Arrows No Bullets call the idea inhumane. They want Mother Nature to control the population.
