A Bridgeport man who police say was robbed at gunpoint while delivering Chinese food spoke publicly about the incident Saturday. 

The man did not want to be identified, but says he feels lucky to be alive after being held up at gunpoint by five men. He says the incident happened on Wednesday around 10 p.m. on Charles Street when he went to deliver Chinese food for the Panda Restaurant. 

"They hit me on the side of the head and they pointed a gun at my chest," the deliveryman says.

Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says there is usually an increase in armed robberies of delivery workers during the holidays, when everybody's looking for extra cash.

"A lot of times the address doesn't even exist, so they get there and they're looking for the address and next thing you know, they're looking at a gun pointed at their head," he says. 

Glenn Leonard, owner Uncle G's Deli in Downtown Bridgeport, says he has taken steps to avoid armed robberies.

"We don't do residential, we just do strictly corporate for one of those reasons, because we don't know where we're going," Leonard says. 

Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
