Democrat Kevin Christie has declared victory in the race to become the next Westport first selectman.
Christie was first elected to the school board in 2021 and is currently chair of its policy committee.
Christie said residents wanted a clear vision and collaborative planning.
He told News 12 he spoke to Gov. Ned Lamont who congratulated him and the town on the results.
"(This) presents a new opportunity for our town to work together as First Selectperson. As someone who will advocate for what Westport needs with the state, with the governor, with our key state agencies with our state legislators. We're just excited about the future, excited to continue and the improve the quality of life for Westporters," he says.
He ran against Republican Don O'Day, who until May of this year was a lifelong Democrat and Independent David Rosenwaks.
O'Day conceded to Christie when speaking with News 12's Frank Recchia.
"He should declare victory because he clearly won the election. And I congratulate Kevin. He ran a great race. He's a very good guy and I wish him well," he says.
Current First Selectman Jen Tooker announced she would not run for reelection and instead run for governor. Months later, the Republican dropped out of the race.
