Democrat Barbara Smyth has declared victory in the Norwalk mayoral race.
Smyth would be Norwalk's second female mayor and its first in 50 years. Jennie Cave was elected mayor in 1975.
Barbara Smyth said she is honored to be a public servant for Norwalk residents. Smyth thanked her supporters, her team and the voters, promising to be a mayor for every resident.
"This marks the beginning of a new beginning of a new chapter," she said. "I promise to lead every Norwalker regardless of neighborhood and background."
She ran her campaign on her professional experience and background as a former teacher who knows the challenges that Norwalk faces but also sees the opportunities the city offers.
