A man accused in the hit-and-run crash that left a Bridgeport man dead was arraigned Friday on a new charge of reckless manslaughter.

Police say back in August, 36-year-old Dennis Berrios fatally struck 21-year-old Tyron Tate before taking off. Witnesses say Tate had been walking with several other people on Noble Avenue when he was struck.

Berrios had been free on bond and turned himself in Friday morning upon learning of the new warrant. He had initially been charged with evading responsibility.

The judge set the bond for the new charge at $150,000. This prompted an outburst from Tate's family members, who were asked to leave the courtroom.

Tate's mother, Janet Lopez, says she feels the bond should have been set at $500,000 because then Berrios would be less likely to afford it.

Berrios is due back in court on Oct. 24.
