A Derby man is facing multiple charges for his involvement in a fatal crash on Route 8, state police say.
Carlos Beamonte turned himself in Friday.
According to a police warrant, Beamonte was driving a
Honda CR-V when it rearended a Honda Civic De Sol near Exit 7 in January 2025.
The Civic then lost control, crossed into the opposite lanes and crashed into a Honda Accord. A 14-year-old girl from Waterbury who was in the Civic died.
Police say Beamonte left the scene and called his sister,
Jessenia Beamonte, who is a Bethel police officer.
Jessenia Beamonte waited over an hour to inform police that her brother was driving one of the vehicles in the crash.
The warrant also says that prior to the crash, Carlos Beamonte drank at least eight alcoholic beverages at Elicit Brewing in Fairfield.
Jessenia Beamonte faces numerous charges for helping her brother evade responsibility.
Carlos Beamonte was charged with manslaughter, assault, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, evading responsibly death and two counts of evading responsibility relating in death and two counts of evading responsibility resulting in serious physical injury.
Beamonte appeared in Derby Superior Court Friday.
