Derby police say the search for a suspect responsible for abandoning a dead dog inside a duffle bag is over.
They say investigators have identified an individual who confessed to the crime.
Officers say on Nov. 15, they responded to 6th Street near Elizabeth Street for reports of a dead dog wrapped in a black bag on the sidewalk next to a building.
They described the animal as a tan, male French bulldog mix that appeared to be emaciated.
Shelton Animal Control says the dog was also found wearing a nylon black collar with a piece of zip tie connected to it.
On Nov. 17, nonprofit organization Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates got word of the incident and put out a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Police say detectives are continuing to gather evidence, but a warrant for the suspect’s arrest is being pursued.
