The Fairfield developer hoping to purchase the soon-to-be vacant General Electric campus spoke to News 12 Connecticut Wednesday about his plans for the land.
As News 12 reported, Kleban Properties, a Fairfield-based real estate investment and development company, has approached GE about acquiring the 68-acre property.
The company's chairman, Albert Kleban, says he wants to turn the GE campus into a technology center that would be used by local companies. There are also plans for a new hotel on the site.
"We're going to do more of the town of Fairfield," Kelban says. "We're going to do more for the state of Connecticut and for Fairfield County than presently exists with GE and their 800 employees."
Kleban Properties already owns some of the biggest developments in Fairfield, including the Brick walk complex.
Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau says the town is already one of the fastest-growing towns in the state and that the project will help.
"It will make a great statement for Connecticut to say 'we're taking this, we're learning from it and we're stepping in right now to fix the problem.'"
General Electric says it could be two years before it completely moves its operation to Boston.
