The Red Cross says residents are showing great kindness to help ease the pain for victims of Friday's deadly Bridgeport fire.

Flames ripped through three buildings on Fairfield Avenue before firefighters could control the blaze. In addition to a father, a mother and their 1-year old son killed in the fire, 22 neighbors were left homeless.

Rebecca Romero, 12, says her family is trying to salvage what it can from the wreckage. Members of her family are among the victims coping with the tragedy.

"My mom is in shock because when she sees a stove, she's afraid the house is going to catch fire again," says Romero.

Red Cross officials say the community is pulling together to help these families pick up the pieces in time for Christmas. Romero manages to stay positive and says the fire couldn't destroy her holiday spirit.

"Christmas isn't about where you are, having parties," she says. "It's being close to your family."
