A decision is expected to come from New York's highest court whether or not the Bronx Zoo's Happy the Elephant can also be considered a human.
Advocates at the Nonhuman Rights Project (NRP) call Happy an autonomous, cognitively complex elephant - and say she deserves basic human rights.
The group wants her moved from what they call a one-acre prison at the zoo to a spacious sanctuary.
The zoo maintains that Happy is well taken care of and the case has "Nothing
to do with 'Freeing' Happy."
Happy has lived at the Bronx Zoo for 45 years.
