U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy say a new loan from the federal government is essential for rebuilding rails along the Northeast Corridor.
The Department of Transportation announced it is loaning $2.45 billion to Amtrak.
Officials say the money will be used to buy new trains, upgrade tracks and platforms, as well as improve technology.
