The Connecticut Department of Transportation says about a dozen cab drivers at the Stamford train station were suspended for 24 hours after a dispute with the station's management company.

The dispute happened early Monday afternoon when one driver reportedly got out of his car to go stand in the shade, which is not allowed when drivers are waiting in the taxi line. According to the DOT, when that driver was suspended, 10 to 12 others started a protest and blocked access to and from the parking garage. Those protesters were also suspended, and MTA police were called to the scene.

The drivers have declared themselves on strike because they say they constantly have to spend hours waiting in their cars in the heat and without access to a bathroom.

The DOT says drivers can get out of their cars but must stay with the vehicle. It adds that canopies are present to protect drivers from the sun.
