Week three of the Connecticut high school football season did not disappoint.

No. 7 Staples defeated West Haven 34-33 on a last-second field goal by Mickey Ross.

Chaz Darby caught a touchdown pass for the wreckers in the first quarter, and quarterback Nick Weil gave Staples a 17-10 lead going into halftime with a three-yard touchdown run of his own.

Over in Fairfield, Fairfield Warde defeated Bridgeport Central 38-0 behind a first quarter touchdown from the mustangs Erik Maschmeier.

Elsewhere around the state, No. 2 Greenwich defeated Notre Dame-West Haven 38-7, and No. 1 New Canaan took down No. 10 Bunnell 27-7.
