Milford tried a socially distant way to celebrate Halloween on Saturday.
Tracy Bonosconi of the Downtown Milford Business Association says so many events were canceled this year, they couldn't cancel this one too.
"As long as they are wearing a mask and stay 6 feet apart, it's safe, it's proven to be safe," she says.
Although there are different types of Halloween masks worn this year and plenty of hand sanitizer next to buckets of candy, Amy Rushlow says she appreciates her family has a safe way to celebrate.
"We only get them for about 10 Halloweens and then they see kind of done with parents, so we want to make the most out of them," Rushlow says.
The Milford Health Department approved this trick-or-treating event, while other towns are abiding by different regulations.
Fairfield officials say to only trick-or-treat with your household. Westport encourages you to only stay in your neighborhood, and the Stamford mayor said "no" to doing it at all.
State health officials have ruled trick-or-treating a high-risk activity and do advise against it. However, it is not outlawed.
Officials suggest leaving candy in bags or outside in a bucket that kids can grab-and-go. They say to not hand out candy if you’re ill or have traveled to a state on Connecticut's travel advisory list.
They also say a Halloween mask doesn't count as a face mask.
