Police say they arrested at least 45 pro-Palestinian protesters Monday morning near the Yale University campus.
Protesters were gathered there throughout the weekend, and they have continued to demonstrate all day Monday.
The arrests were made as both New Haven police and campus police entered their encampment.
"This honestly followed a series of attempts to negotiate to talk with administration. All they've done is refuse to respond to us," says law student Chisato Kimura.
A group called Jews Voice for Peace have been asking Yale to divest and disclose their investments into weapon manufacturing, which they believe Israel is using in the war against Hamas.
A Yale University spokesperson released the following statement:
“The University…spent several hours in discussion with student protesters yesterday, offering them the opportunity to meet with trustees...and to avoid arrest if they left the plaza by the end of the weekend. They declined this offer and continued to occupy the plaza.”
