The East End Market & Café launched a new initiative called City Fresh designed to give people in a food desert access to healthy foods and diverse recipes.
Half a million dollars in grant money from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture will now promote fresh food grown by Connecticut farmers.
Organizers say the idea is to recognize and promote cultural differences in the city while promoting a healthy diet.
Organizers say the funds will be distributed over a three-year period.
