East Haven woman accused of abandoning dog faces animal cruelty charge

An East Haven woman is facing charges for leaving a dog in a Southbury parking lot without any food or water, police say.

In February, Southbury Animal Control received a report that a dog that was abandoned in the parking lot at Bennett Square.

They say the dog, Reggie, was tied to a post and did not have any food or water with him.

The pup was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment and then brought to Southbury Animal Control Shelter.

Following an investigation, Jamese Williams was located in Milford on Wednesday and arrested. She was charged with animal cruelty and tethering a dog to an object.

Williams is expected to appear in court on Aug 18.

Police say Reggie was later adopted by Southbury Police Department Detective Brianna Critelli, who helped nurse him back to health and provided him with a loving home.
