Towns across Fairfield County are dealing with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Elsa -- including Darien, which was hit with over 5 inches of rain that caused major flooding.
Darien homeowners say the flooding was "historic," as it caused damage to homes near Stony Brook near Renshaw Road, forcing several families to evacuate.
Homeowners tell News 12 it only took an hour for over 4.5 feet of water to flood their basement - destroying their children's toys and personal items.
Many residents who weren't impacted helped pump water out of their neighbors' homes.
They say they've never experienced flooding this bad before, with the most they've seen being 3 inches.
People impacted by the flooding tell News 12 one of the worst parts is that some of the water is sewage backup, causing an odor.
