A couple of organizations are teaming up to make sure no child is left hungry this summer in Stamford.
Volunteers canvassed around Stamford, spreading awareness that there are food options available for children, thanks in part to End Hunger Connecticut and United Way.
End Hunger Connecticut Executive Director Robin Lamott Sparks says their name says it all.
"Frankly our job is to try and put ourselves out of business, if we are doing our job right, we don't need an organization to end hunger because we've actually taken care of the problem," says Sparks.
The summer meals program is federally run through USDA and administered through the state Department of Education and school districts. Sparks says 80% of children who eat free or reduced price lunches during the school year are not taking advantage of free meals during the summer.
Associate Superintendent for School Development for Stamford Public Schools Olympia Della Flora wants families to know food is available.
"We just want to make sure that people know that this resource is here, and if they're stressed out and want to have one less thing to worry about, they can use this," says Della Flora.
There are more than 20 locations in Stamford where children can get the free meals.
