At this point in the summer, most local baseball teams are sitting at home because their seasons are over.
That's not the case for one local team in Stamford.
For the fourth straight year, the 18U Stamford Thunder program has earned a spot in the Babe Ruth World Series.
Manager John Calo says this year's team is comprised of mostly new players, so for many of them, it will be their first opportunity to play in the Babe Ruth World Series.
“We’re just fortunate to have made it to the next level," manager John Calo says. "Hopefully, they make life-long memories."
The team is asking the community for donations to help with transportation expenses, hotels, and food.
“We’ve had kids that we took in 2010 that still talk about it," Calo says. "If we can get the support from the community — which I know we can because it’s a great community -- these boys will experience the same memories."
Players are hoping to bring a world series title back to Stamford.
“The [Babe Ruth] World Series is every kid's dream," shortstop Remington Anderson says. "It feels nice to represent our city."
The team will leave for Florida at the end of the month.
