Former NYPD Officer Jose Ramos received his sentence on Wednesday after he was found guilty of robbery, grand larceny and other charges.
A judge sentenced Ramos to a minimum of 12 ½ years behind bars.
The 17-year veteran of the force had faced multiple charges, including criminal possession of a control substance, attempted robbery and attempted grand larceny charges.
An investigation began back in 2008 after internal affairs got an anonymous tip and started wire-tapping the officer's phone.
The investigation uncovered Ramos was allegedly involved in numerous illegal activities with a known drug dealer from Mott Haven, which included plots to steal drug dealers' money, sell marijuana and transport heroin.
Prosecutors said Ramos allowed the drug dealer to operate out of two barbershops he owned.
They also stated his actions not only undermined the criminal justice system, but also tarnished the shields and uniforms of the NYPD.
Jose Ramos still has six open indictments of criminal charges against him. He has another court hearing on those charges scheduled for Dec. 17.
