We are getting closer to the opening of the new Wegmans supermarket in Norwalk.

News 12 Connecticut is getting a sneak peek at how things are looking at the newly constructed site and all that Wegmans is going to offer its customers.

The planning has been months in the making. In January, the supermarket held hiring events.

The 92,000 square foot store, Wegmans first in Connecticut, will employ approximately 500 people most hired locally.

The new store will feature all the traditional departments Wegmans customers have come to know and love, including delicious restaurant foods, an abundant produce department with hundreds of different fruits and vegetables, and a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese options.

"I think the food experience and the culture that we're going to bring is going to be a great thing for the community," said Wegmans Store Manager Emily Gee.

The store will officially open on July 23.
