Exclusive video obtained by News 12 Connecticut shows Bridgeport firefighters rescue a woman from a burning apartment building.
The fire broke out in the 200 block of Wheeler Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
Officials say the fire started in the apartment building then quickly spread to a multi-family home next door.
Officials say a woman tried to escape the apartment building by jumping out of a top-floor window. The video shows the woman land on an overhang. Firefighters stretched their ladder toward her and ultimately brought her to safety.
"Ladder 5 did a tremendous job getting the bucket to her and rescuing her from the roof with the bucket," Asst. Chief Giovanni Sanzo said.
Officials say the woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her upper and lower extremities. They say no other tenants were seriously injured.
Two dogs died, but crews were able to rescue two other dogs. A firefighter suffered minor burns to one of his hands, and is expected to be OK.
Officials say 15 families between the apartment building and multi-family home have been displaced. The Red Cross is helping with temporary housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
