Researchers are saying that a new experimental weight loss pill could offer results that rival currently approved injectable therapies.
The New England Journal of Medicine published a study on Eli Lilly’s drug, called Orforglipron, on Friday.
According to the study, 272 patients with an average body weight of about 240 pounds tested the medication.
Researchers found the pill helped patients on its highest dose loss an average of 15% of their body weight after 36 weeks in a mid-stage trial.
Unlike currently approved medicines for weight loss like Ozempic and Wegovy, Orforglipron is a daily pill, not a once-weekly injection.
