Former Fairfield Police Chief, Gary MacNamara has 30 years of law enforcement under his belt and says he is stunned, disappointed and emotional by the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
"At that moment in time, the men and women of the Secret Service heroically jumped on stage when shots were being fired to protect the individual they were sworn to protect – and that speaks volumes to the courage and the reason why they exist," said MacNamara.
MacNamara says there are many layers to peel back – starting with security. He called the way the shooter was able to get that close to the candidate “shocking.”

"High ground is always an advantage. How he was able to do that and have a clear line of sight to the [former] president – because that unfortunately is a failure in the assessment." said MacNamara.
"There will be real attempts to increase the security at any future rallies whether it be indoor or outdoor, but I think Secret Service will be pushing for indoor events as opposed to outdoor events in future rallies between now and the election." said Kenneth Gray, a former FBI special agent and professor at the University of New Haven.
