A News 12 employee, who was diagnosed with Lyme disease a year ago, says the disease can be debilitating.

Experts tell News 12 that ticks are usually mature enough to spot this time of year.

They also say that the symptoms from getting Lyme disease can be quite dangerous.

Both pets and wild animals can spread ticks. For example, wild deer can drop ticks off while eating apples in orchards.

Medical professionals suggest to send ticks that have been removed from your body to the CDC for further testing.

If you are planning on spending time outdoors, be sure to wear bug spray and wear long sleeves. Once you're home, wash your clothing and take a hot shower to help avoid bites.
