Local experts are questioning if new restrictions designed to keep terrorists out of the United States will really keep the country safe.

Sen. Chris Murphy helped pass a law this month that requires any visitor who has been to Syria or Iraq in the past five years to go through a visa screening process, even if they have dual U.S. Citizenship.

Bridgeport immigration attorney Alex Meyerovich believes that the process won't uncover much.

"How do you determine if they came back hardened terrorists or they just had a family trip?" Meyerovich asks. "That's going to create a problem."

Sen. Murphy says the law will stop terrorists from coming into the country.

Currently, visitors to the United States from Europe, Australia and Canada don't need a visa to enter the country.
