A Stratford mother and her young, disabled children are battling winter weather inside their home – 10 days after their furnace failed.

Liane Rose, who lives on Orange Street, says she cannot afford to get it fixed.

"It's one thing for me to go without heat, but for my two kids with special needs to go without heat, that's something else entirely," Rose told News 12. "I'm the homeowner so the fix is on me. Bottom line," she said.

Dr. Monette Ferguson, of Alliance, the Bridgeport-based anti-poverty agency, said she will have somebody from her office contact the family on Monday morning.

"She's going through what a lot of families are going through at this time of year, and we're here to help," Dr. Ferguson said.

"I hope we can get our furnace fixed," Rose said. "I don't want us to freeze to death in here."
