Students from Fairfield College Preparatory School planted flags at the graves of veterans at a Fairfield cemetery on Saturday.
Students say the Fairfield's Veterans of Foreign Wars group started the tradition at Oak Lawn Cemetery but were forced to stop during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sophomores at the school are now carrying on the work.
"My grandfather is buried here and he's also a Veteran, so it's just sort of honoring his legacy and that he's participated in war," said Fairfield Prep sophomore Danny Murphy.
Communities across the country are honoring veterans in similar ways as the nation celebrates Veterans Appreciation Week.
