A Fairfield hockey star has died after a fourth battle with cancer.
Charlie Capalbo was just one month shy of his 24th birthday.
News 12 has reported on Capalbo previously. The Fairfield native was a star goalie for Fairfield Ludlowe High School. The community has rallied around him for his previous bouts with cancer.
In an announcement, his family says, "The depth of emotions we all feel are impossible to describe."
"We will be forever grateful to the thousands of people that have made this entire journey special, despite each painful setback."
"We will continue to honor Charlie in everything we do. We will stay grateful and hopeful and will recover from this loss the way that Charlie wanted us to."
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
