A Fairfield man is using a martial arts charity to combat cancer after seeing the effects it had on his friends and family.
Jon Thomas is using his four years of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to start "Tap Cancer Out," a program that raises awareness and funds for cancer-based nonprofits and charities.
After Thomas' friend Maureen Minnick lost her battle with cancer in July, he decided to use his organization's resources to benefit an education fund set up for her son's Henry and Sean.
On Saturday, Thomas and his Jiu Jitsu teammates are participating in a Spartan Race for Tap Cancer Out, with the donations he raises going to the boys' fund.
