Fairfield police respond to potential suspicious package

Police were called to Beaconview Drive just before 1 p.m. for a package found under a mailbox.

Fairfield police responded to a potential suspicious package Friday afternoon.
Police were called to Beaconview Drive just before 1 p.m. for a package found under a mailbox.
Connecticut State Police Bomb Investigation Unit and the FBI assisted police.
The package turned out to be a piece of a metal pipe that later was thrown out.
As precaution, McKinley Elementary School was placed in a secure school protocol.
Fairfield Warde High School students were asked to avoid the area following dismissal.
