Though summer is almost over, Fairfield police are urging residents to secure their homes before going on vacation, as the summer is prime season for break-ins.
Sgt. James Perez, of the Fairfield Police Department, also warns residents not to leave anything out front.
?Something as simple as a beach bag that may seem nonchalant to you, can be very important to a burglar, ?cause it can look like a purse and they'll turn around and target your home specifically for that,? he says.
Police also recommend having lights set on timers so it appears that someone is home, or leaving a car in the driveway.
Police say from April to June, Fairfield saw a spike in burglaries.
