Students from Fairfield Prep are doing their part to help the less fortunate this Thanksgiving holiday.
The school is in a friendly competition with other Jesuit high schools in the tristate area to see which can make the largest donation.
According to the school, it has already passed its goal of collecting more than 12,000 food items.
One of the groups helping Prep, including Action for Bridgeport Community Development (ABCD), says the food drive is a great teaching moment for students.
"I believe it teaches the children a lesson in giving,” says Marcia Fountain with ABCD. “You know, we're blessed and this is the time of year we really have to count our blessings so when they share with other people it really gives them the appreciation for what they have."
Food donations will be given to several charities, including ABCD and Operation Hope.
