A Fairfield singer-songwriter is teaming up with Bonnie Raitt and several other big-name musicians for an environmental cause.
Connecticut State Troubador Kristen Graves wrote and composed "The River Song." She says a friend who runs a record company recently asked if he could use her song on a new CD titled "Buy This Fracking Album" - a compilation of songs to raise awareness about the environmental dangers of hydraulic fracking for natural gas.
She says she was inspired to write her song because so many people have wonderful childhood memories of going down to the river with their parents, and that if pollution prevents future children from swimming in the river, they can't create these childhood memories.
The CD, which was mentioned in a Rolling Stone article last week, will also include artists Bonnie Raitt, The Indigo Girls, Natalie Merchant and the late Pete Seeger.
Graves says it is not about fame or accomplishment for her, but about making more people aware of the issue.
"I think that people need to start discussing what fracking is actually doing to our water, and to people's clean water sources," she says.
"Buy This Fracking Album" is slated for release on June 16.
