The Stags are unrecognizable from last year. Not only did they add seven or eight new players, but they also have a new coach leading the charge. After a couple years as an assistant under former head coach Jay Young, interim head coach Chris Casey has taken over.
Young left the university rather abruptly back in October, but Casey says it's in the rearview mirror now.
"Honestly, I've just tried to flick a switch and move forward. The guys have done a good job of doing that. The season's going to happen with or without us, so we just made a resolution to all of us and said 'hey, let's put our heads down, keep moving forward and let's get ready to go play," he says.
Fairfield lost its season opener at Boston College this week, but many of its players are still recovering from injuries, Casey said.
"We need to trickle some guys back that are injured, and get them on board and get them up to speed with what we're doing, and the guys we're doing it with right now have to get better," he says.
The Stags home opener is Monday night.
