Jennifer Sullivan has been missing for a year.
"How could you get closure when you don't know where she is," said Jennifer Sullivan's mother Valerie Booth.
Booth was in tears Monday at her Milford home as she spoke publicly for the first time. She's wondering where her daughter Jennifer could be.
"We saw her at Christmas, and then Jan. 8 was the last time I talked to her," said Booth.
Booth said her daughter was last seen in New London in rehab for a drug problem. Milford police have been investigating. They posted a message on their Facebook page in May.
Friends and family even hired a private investigator.
"Everything that we've tried to do has gone nowhere," said close friend Melissa Sharretto.
Sharretto says Sullivan went missing 10 years ago but showed up two weeks later. She says she has always been able to get in touch with her on the phone.
"So, when you don't get those phone calls anymore, it's like where did she go? Why? Why didn't she call? Something's wrong, and we're stuck," said Sharretto.
Friends and family don't even know if Sullivan is still alive, and that is their biggest fear. She has two grown children.
They suspect an old boyfriend may have something to do with her disappearance.
"I feel like it's my responsibility to get an answer for her kids and her mom," said Sharretto.
Sullivan is on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. She has blonde curly hair and blue eyes and is about 5 feet tall. She's in her mid-40s.
Family members say she has a blue Grateful Dead bear tattoo on her ankle and a fairy tattoo on her back.
"I don't know what to do now, and it's been a year," said Sharretto.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Milford Police Detective Gallagher at 203-783-4762 or the police department's main number at 203-878-6551.
