A 2-year-old boy from Fairfield has died, one week after being pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool near Black Rock Turnpike.

Family members said Anthony Jones died early Wednesday morning at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital.

His mother, Nicole Jones, described her son as "a fighter," and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of messages and support from the community.

Anthony fell into the pool last Wednesday at a home the family is renting near Black Rock Turnpike, according to Jones.

Emergency responders revived the child at the scene, and he was hospitalized in critical condition for several days.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses. The fundraising page can be found here.
