A Bridgeport family is grieving after a 21-year-old man was shot and killed in West Haven.
Khalil Abdul-Hakeem, 21, is being remembered as a beloved member of Bridgeport's Jamaican American community.
April Barron, his cousin, says he was very close to his family, and that his tragic death has left them heartbroken.
Police say Abdul-Hakeem was shot at a gas station on First Avenue in West Haven on July 17.
At first, investigators were called to the scene where Abdul-Hakeem appeared to crash his car near the gas station, but they say upon investigating the accident, they found he had been shot.
His family has setup a makeshift memorial in his memory in Bridgeport. Barron's son, Iriquois Alston, was also shot to death in a car nine years ago.
Police say they're investigating. The victim's family is still making funeral arrangements.
