The new year means new rates for train commuters in southwestern Connecticut.
Metro-North has raised its fares on the New Haven line by 1 percent.
The new rate went into effect Jan. 1.
Railroad officials say the increase will help pay for the cost of the new M8 rail cars being put into service.
Additional 1 percent increases are scheduled to take place in 2017 and 2018.
