The FBI is continuing its effort to hire more women by taking a 30 by 30 pledge to hire 30% more women by 2030 to build more operational success.
Meaghan Takla started her career at the FBI 13 years ago as a forensic accountant. She applied to be an agent and went into a six-month training at the academy.
"There's many different opportunities for women to make an impact at the FBI," said Takla. "I think there's a little bit of like a mismark where women don't realize that they have the qualification that they can do contribute here."
The 30 by 30 pledge aims to hire more women into all areas of the workforce.
"You can have a medical background, engineering, accounting, law. You really don't need a law enforcement background to work here," said Takla.
Currently, 40% of all FBI employees are women, 23% of FBI's law enforcement officers are women and the New Haven Bureau has 19 female special agents.
Takla says women should not feel intimidated to apply.
"You're all together and you all share the common goal of going home safe at the end of the day," she said.
To be apply for the FBI you must have a four-year degree, in any specialty, from a university. To be an agent, you must also have two years of work experience and be at least 27 years old.
