Federal aid may save southwestern CT businesses

Some local businesses say with the help of federal aid, they may now be able to keep their doors open after suffering extensive flood damage. Governor Rell (R-CT) is asking President Bush to declare Connecticut a disaster area, which could bring millions of dollars of funding to homeowners and businesses hit the hardest. Barbara Dierolf, owner of Quilt Essentials at 35 Danbury Road in Wilton, says she lost nearly everything to the storm. Dierolf says, ?For the first two days I was in shock. The second two days I cried. The fifth day I decided I needed to start working on how we will make lemonade out of lemons.? Dierolf hopes federal disaster aid will help her do that. When or if the aid will be available to Connecticut residents is unknown.
