Connecticut's assault weapons ban will stay in place -- for now.

A federal judge Thursday denied a preliminary injunction request from a national gun rights group.

The judge ruled that "assault weapons are sub-optimal for self-defense."

The same judge is still considering another injunction request from a different Second Amendment group.
