Monday was the first day students in most Connecticut schools did not have to wear a mask if they did not want to.
Gov. Ned Lamont ended the mask mandate on Feb. 28, leaving it up to each school district to decide. He says 85% to 90% of the schools in the state are making masks optional.
Bridgeport Public Schools are going to require masks a few more weeks. The district started a task force to look into the issue and found a lot of emotion on both sides.
News 12 Connecticut's Mark Sudol was outside Osborn Hill Elementary School in Fairfield and spoke to parents and kids about this significant day.
